The earth as viewed by the astronauts
of Apollo 11. Do you remember this? I certainly do. Maybe
you were just a twinkle in your parents eyes when this took
place. Anyway, I would like to dedicate this page to both
of my parents as they are no longer with us. My dad got me
interested in space travel when we used to go out on a cold
wintery night and try to get a glimse of the Sputnik through
the Chicago street lights. My mom took a lot of phone calls from NASA
and AMSAT for me
that were very important leading up to a successful SAREX contact with
Jerry Ross aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis on mission
STS-74 at Lake Street
Elementary School in Crown Point,IN. on November 13,1995. Bless both
of their souls.
Hello, my name is Ed and I am an amateur radio
operator located in Crown Point, Indiana. SAREX
is the acronym for Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment.
A lot of the astronauts are ham operators and equipment
is taken on board the shuttle when hams are involved in
the flight crew and they have the capability of enjoying
their hobby from space. Personal contacts as well as
scheduled contacts with school groups are done during these
missions. Click on the SAREX Homepage link to find out more
Currently, the next scheduled Shuttle SAREX mission will be in
the late spring of 2000. More info will be posted here as
applicable.
